One example of how innovation is at the heart of what Model Forests do can be found in Saskatchewan. The Prince Albert Model Forest (PAMF), in partnership with FPInnovations, is receiving $1.1 million over the next three years to help develop the province’s forest industry. The money will go to improving management and business practices, help revise product lines, increase international market activities and provide technical support that can be used to create new ways of producing higher-value products. Funds will also go to creating job training programs emphasizing Aboriginal opportunities.
PAMF has built a strong partnership of local level stakeholders that work well to help solve problems impacting forest management and plays a central role in the innovation agenda of Saskatchewan’s forest industry. The province’s forest sector generates more than $1 billion in annual sales.
