Enhancing livelihoods in a Mayan community

The Maya Q’eqchi ‘of Rocja Pontila community is located in the buffer zone of the Lachuá National Park, Guatemala. The Lachuá Model Forest has worked with the community to design and develop projects aimed at improving their quality of life. Today, the community produces cocoa and honey, restores the nearby forests and develops ecotourism projects. They also built a computer centre with an internet connection running on solar energy.
