Comings and Goings

In January of 2004, the IMFN and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) officially nominated Mette Wilke, Forestry Officer, Forest Resources Development Service of the FAO, to the IMFNS Board of Directors. The IMFNS looks forward to strengthening collaboration between the two organizations as partners in pursuit of sustainable forest resource management. Welcome Mette!

 

CUSO cooperants Parker Gray of New Brunswick, Canada, and Alejandro Mañón, of the Dominican Republic, have joined the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Centre in Santiago, Chile. Over the next two years Parker will concentrate on assisting with the development of projects that strengthen existing Model Forests in the region and identifying diverse funding sources.  In addition to project development, he is providing general policy support to the Regional Centre and the network of Model Forests. Alejandro, also posted to the Centre for a two year term, holds a Masters degree in Forest Science. His main focus will be on supporting the LAC Centre and Network communications.

 

Maureen Whelan, formerly, Manager of Programs Outreach with the Canadian Forest Service, is now Acting Manager of Canada’s Model Forest Program. Maureen has worked with model forests for eight years, four as the Communications Coordinator for Fundy Model Forest in New Brunswick, and four at the national level.

 

Dave Lemkay of Natural Resources Canada takes over as Manager of Programs Outreach with the Canadian Forest Service. In this capacity, Dave will network within and across the CMFN and First Nations Forestry Program and their partners, taking opportunities to build products and events that support sustainable forest management and awareness.
