New Manager for Regional Model Forest Network – LAC

Costa Rica’s Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Centre (CATIE) has hired Ms. Olga Corrales as the manager of the Regional Model Forest Network for Latin America and the Caribbean (RMFN–LAC). Ms. Corrales, who began her duties on May 2, 2005, is based at CATIE in Turrialba, Costa Rica (Email
Ms. Corrales has an extensive background in environment-related public policy. She comes to RMFN–LAC from the UNDP where, as Program Officer for Environment and Energy, between 2003–2005, she served as the liaison with government officials, donors and the private sector. Between June 1987 and May 2000, Ms. Corrales worked for the World Bank, the Environmental Law Institute in Washington, DC, the Organization of American States (OAS), and the Environmental and Natural Resources Law Centre in Costa Rica.
As manager of the RMFN–LAC, Ms. Corrales will serve as the focal point for the Model Forests of the region, for managers of national Model Forest programs and for the members of the Board of Directors. As part of this responsibility, she will work with the region's 12 Model Forests in the development of their  annual work programs and budgets. She will also provide the Model Forests with technical assistance and guidance, and develop and deliver regional networking activities in areas of shared interest.


Ms. Corrales holds an MA, Public Policy, from Duke University (North Carolina, US) and a law degree from the University of Costa Rica. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
