Comings and Goings...

IMFNS is pleased to welcome Hannelore Walther to its staff. Hannelore will be replacing IMFNS Communications Officer Christa Mooney while she is on a one-year maternity leave. Hannelore has an MA in Applied Linguistics and over 20 years’ experience in the communications field. For the past 9 years Hannelore has been the owner of the communications firm, Global Wizard Communications, specializing in communications strategies, research and writing, and event management. Her clients have included a cross-section of Government of Canada departments and agencies, including Technology Partnerships Canada, Natural Resources Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. Prior to starting her own business, Hannelore worked for two years as a special assistant to a Member of Parliament, and 12 years as the Manager of English Second-Language Training at the Bank of Canada.


Forester Ramon N. Calumbay has been designated as the new project manager for the Ulot Watershed Model Forest in the Philippines, replacing Leo M. Poculan. As Senior Forest Management Specialist and Assistant Division Chief of the Forest Resources Development Division, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Ramon brings valuable expertise to the position. Prior to this assignment, Ramon served as Chief of the Watershed and Range Management section of the DENR regional office. He has also received training in various technical and managerial programs that will be helpful to model forest development in the Philippines.


Araucarias del Alto Malleco Model Forest welcomes CUSO cooperant Robert Duncan of Canada to their staff. Robert, a forester by profession, arrived in Alto Malleco in March of 2004 for a two-year term. He is studying pine nut development in the communities of Curacautin and Lonquimay. This study will lend greater understanding of this important local seed with respect to pine nut production, harvest levels, post-harvest nutrient quality and product development, and an exhaustive analysis of the actual and potential pine nut market.


Pablo Sola Ruedi, Mayor of the community of Curacautin, has been re-elected President of the Alto Malleco Model Forest Board of Directors for a second two-year term.
